JSC: Feb 9, 2026
This week’s Mindset Monday landed right on time.
As February moves forward and hiring activity begins to thaw, the conversation shifted away from hype, motivation, or quick fixes—and squarely toward discipline, consistency, and self-trust. The reminder was simple but powerful: most people don’t fall short because they lack talent. They stall because they renegotiate commitments they already made to themselves.
The message for this week was clear: stop negotiating with yourself. Not louder effort. Not more tools. Just steadier habits that you can repeat—even when energy is low, confidence wavers, or momentum feels slow. Read on to hear how the community is approaching Mindset and our committements to ourselves.
As always, if you're just joining us today, look forward to learning about our community updates and get some more information about the Hiring for Impact event kicking off in March. Ready? Let's hop in!
It's all about the Mindset: Key Takeaways from Mindset Monday
This week’s Mindset Monday centered on one core idea: non-negotiables for yourself. Here are a few takeaways from the conversation:
1. Discipline beats intensity—every time
Big bursts of effort feel productive, but they’re not sustainable. Progress comes from repeatable actions you can show up for daily. Consistency builds trust with yourself, and trust fuels confidence.
2. Stop renegotiating commitments you’ve already made
“I’ll do it tomorrow” is where momentum quietly erodes. These internal negotiations don’t happen out loud—but they still do damage. Decide once. Protect the decision. Follow through.
3. Action creates motivation—not the other way around
Waiting to feel ready, clear, or confident keeps people stuck. Psychology shows that motivation follows action. Structure first. Feelings catch up later.
4. The market is shifting—preparation matters now
February is a pivot point. Budgets are approved, planning is complete, and execution is underway. Hiring activity typically accelerates in March and April. Those who built habits early are positioned to benefit.
5. Small steps compound faster than big plans
You don’t need a full reset or a perfect system. You need one or two non-negotiables you can keep. Show up at the same time. Reach out to a few people. Refine—not rewrite—what’s already working.
6. Clarity comes from doing, not thinking
Resumes improve through feedback, not rewrites. Networks strengthen through follow-ups, not avoidance. Confidence builds by practicing interviews before you “need” them.
7. Focus beats volume
Not every opportunity deserves your energy. Filtering companies, roles, and conversations is part of discipline. The goal isn’t any job—it’s the right one.
8. Non-negotiables are allowed—and necessary
You don’t need permission to protect your time, focus, or priorities. Pre-deciding what matters removes guilt, second-guessing, and emotional decision-making later.
As hiring activity begins to pick up heading into March and April, the focus now is preparation over motivation. Action comes first. Structure creates clarity. Small, daily non-negotiables—showing up at a set time, following up on conversations, refining instead of restarting—compound into real progress.
The takeaway: progress doesn’t require being louder or busier. It requires being steadier, protecting your commitments, and following through on the promises you make to yourself—one day at a time.

That's a wrap!
As you head into the week, keep it simple: choose one non-negotiable and honor it. You don’t need a perfect plan or a surge of motivation, just steady follow-through. Momentum is built in small, repeatable actions, and every time you keep a promise to yourself, you rebuild trust and confidence. Stay kind to yourself, stay focused, and remember that consistency (not neccesarily intensity) is what moves you forward.
See you next Monday,
Tena & Stephen
