JSC: June 29, 2026
Last day of Q2 and first day of Q3 all happen this week! Where does time go? Before we know it, we will be discussing holiday traditions and the change in seasons again.
Now, before we sprint into July, this week's Mindset Monday has a reframe worth carrying with you: the biggest obstacle in your job search probably is not your resume or the market or last week's rejection email. It is the conversation you have been having with yourself about all of those things. Big one.
We also have some exciting news to share on a Miami initiative JSC is getting behind, and we think you will want to be in the loop as it unfolds.
OK! Let's get into it.
Mindset Monday: The Event and the Story
Here is a reframe worth sitting with: the rejection did not defeat you. The story you built around it did (or is).
The throughline: the event happened once. The story has been happening every day since. And only one of those is in your control.
A few highlights worth carrying:
- Our emotional response to a setback is actually temporary. The initial wave begins to fade naturally over minutes, not months. What keeps it alive is the replay: the rumination, the "I should have answered that differently," the "I'm falling behind." Every replay triggers a new emotional response. You stop responding to what happened and start responding to what you keep telling yourself happened.
- The rejection only happened once. But the story you build around it can repeat ten, twenty, a hundred times. That is not the company doing that anymore. That is your internal dialogue.
- No resume, no networking strategy, no coaching can fully reach a person who has already decided they have lost. That is the honest truth. The inner story has to shift first.
- Emotions make great passengers. They are terrible drivers. Confidence is not built when the fear goes away. It is built because you kept moving while fear was sitting right next to you.
Here is where the framework comes in:
- Reflection: What am I actually feeling right now? Name it honestly. Disappointed, embarrassed, afraid. That is fine. Acknowledge it.
- Discovery: What are the facts? Not the story, the facts. One company said no. You still have six active applications out. You have two networking calls this week. Your resume is already unlocking interviews. The facts are rarely as hopeless as the story.
- Execution: What action moves me closer to what I am trying to achieve today? More networking messages, a refined pitch, a reach-out you have been putting off, or simply showing up and not quitting. Base the action on the facts, not the emotion.
The event may have happened yesterday. The story has been happening every day since. Today, you get to choose which one leads.

Announcements and Reminders:
Something exciting to share as we head into July.
JSC has raised our hand to support a meaningful initiative here in Miami: the MDC AI Talent Coalition, a sectoral partnership tied to the U.S. Department of Commerce's EDA AI Upskill Accelerator Program. The goal is to upskill the local workforce in in-demand AI skills and strengthen Miami's tech talent pipeline, with real backing at the federal level.
As the case for funding comes together, community voices matter. JSC's participation helps demonstrate genuine local demand, and that is exactly the kind of collective weight this community can carry.
We are excited about where this is headed and will share more as the opportunity unfolds. Stay tuned.
Reminder: Workshop Schedule Updates:
A few schedule updates to note, starting this week:
- Mindset Monday: now at 10:30am ET, still 30 minutes.
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday classes: moving to 8:30am ET, 30 minutes each (previously noon).
- Wednesday and Friday Office Hours: no change, still at noon ET.
It's been a couple weeks with these changes and your feedback is important to us, let us know how things are working for you and your schedule. Our goal is to meet people where they're at so your feedback in critical.
That's a wrap!
Q2 closes and Q3 opens; That is the whole frame this week.
If you stayed consistent through the summer slowdown, you are further along than you think. If you lost a little ground, you now have a clean opening to reset your rhythm. Either way, July is yours to step into.
My rep this week is doing a real Q2 review: 15 honest minutes with 3 things that worked, 1 thing that did not, and the 1 change I am carrying into July. Not a production. Just a checkpoint before the new quarter starts.
What is your one rep this week? Hit reply and tell me yours. I read every one.
We are here with you.
