We are halfway through June and two weeks out from the end of Q2. This is the kind of moment that asks for a quiet check-in: what have I been carrying, what have I been avoiding, and what is the smallest move I can make today that points me forward?

Today's note has a Mindset Monday on winning the first two minutes of your day, plus a few important announcements and updates from our community.

OK! Let's get into it..

Mindset Monday: Win the First Two Minutes

Most job seekers think they lose the day in the rejection email, or the recruiter silence, or the interview that gets delayed. They do not. They lose it in the first two minutes after they wake up, the first two minutes after they open the laptop, the first two minutes before they decide whether to move forward or let resistance win.

The throughline of this morning: the war is not won by doing absolutely everything. It is won by choosing to move in the first two minutes.

A few highlights worth carrying:

  • The hardest part of any task is usually starting it, not finishing it. Survive the first 120 seconds and the rest becomes manageable.
  • We are in the heat of summer. Conversations are slower. Recruiters are juggling vacations. Companies are mid-year and asking hard questions. That makes the first two minutes matter more, not less.
  • Motivation is not reliable enough to carry you through. Discipline is. And discipline can be as small as keeping one small promise to yourself.
  • The first two minutes are not about finishing. They are about breaking the lie that you cannot start.
  • Reflection, discovery, execution. Where is the resistance, what story am I telling myself, what action serves my future in the next 120 seconds?

The challenge this week: practice the 120 Reset. When resistance shows up, do not negotiate with it. Just move for two minutes. Write the first sentence. Open the document. Send the message. Take the walk. Then keep going.

You are not powerless. You are building. Even when it is slow. Even when it is hot. Even when the market feels confusing.

Here's to a strong week. You've got this.

Events and Announcements:

The Truist Foundation Fellowship Wraps

This week marks the official wrap-up of the Truist Foundation Fellowship cohort, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge how much this experience has shaped me and the work we're doing at JSC. The fellowship grounded so much of the work that has been built, and was a powerful reminder that real growth happens inside community, with people who challenge you, support you, and help you see what is possible. Personally, I am leaving this chapter with deep gratitude, strong relationships I will carry with me, and a renewed sense of purpose for the work ahead.

Workshop Schedule Updates:

A few schedule updates to note, starting this week:

  • Mindset Monday: now at 10:30am ET, still 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday classes: moving to 8:30am ET, 30 minutes each (previously noon).
  • Wednesday and Friday Office Hours: no change, still at noon ET.

If these new times open up your schedule, we cannot wait to see you more often.

That's a wrap!

Here is what holds this issue together: every win you build, from the smallest two-minute start to the biggest community milestone, comes from showing up. From choosing the action over the resistance. From letting the right people stand with you while you do it. The fellowship reminded me of that again this season, and the work ahead asks the same of every one of us. We're in this together.

So this week, win your two minutes. Then string them together. Show up to the calls (new times and all). Lean into the community when the silence gets loud. The path forward is built in small starts, not big leaps.

My rep this week is a 120 Reset every morning before I check email.

Hit reply and tell me yours, or if it's the same, let me know and we can hold each other accountable.

We are here with you.

Tena & Stephen

We are back. Last week we took a beat for Memorial Day, and before we get into anything else, a quiet thank you to the families who carry the real weight of that day. Your service, and theirs, is not forgotten. Now, into June. The unofficial start of summer is behind us, the calendar is opening up, and this week's note is a focused one: just a Mindset Monday on triggers, stories, and how ...

We're heading into the back half of May. The calendar is starting to lean into summer, and the work you put in over the next two weeks tends to set the tone for what June and July look like. So this is a good one to stay focused.
