JSC: June 8, 2026
One full week into June. Technically we are officially in "summer" seasons and it's warming up! The first wave of summer has settled in, the calendar is finding its rhythm, and this is the kind of week that rewards intention over intensity.
Today's note is a focused one: a Mindset Monday on the two strategic skills most job seekers underestimate, flexibility and self-care.
OK! Let's get into it..
Mindset Monday: Flexibility & Self-Care Aren't Soft Skills — They're Strategy
Job searching is one of the most emotionally demanding things a person can do. It asks you to put yourself out there, again and again, with little feedback and a timeline you didn't choose. Somewhere along the way, most people fall into the same trap: they treat the search like a second job. Rigid hours. Constant output. Measuring every day by how many applications went out.
That approach leads to burnout, comparison, and self-doubt. You show up to interviews depleted. You stop believing in yourself before anyone else has the chance to.
The reframe of the week: flexibility and self-care are not soft skills. They are strategic.
A few highlights worth carrying:
- Flexibility is not lowering your standards. It is staying open to the path looking different than you planned.
- Self-care is not a clichƩ. It is protecting the energy you need to show up at your best, which is a competitive advantage.
- Rigid thinking closes doors before you even know they were open.
- If your current strategy isn't working, be honest with yourself in three or four weeks, not six months.
- Rest is not the enemy of progress. Sprinters flame out. Marathoners with recovery built in finish stronger.
The challenge this week: pick one area where you have been rigid (a title, a salary number, a company type) and ask, is this a real boundary, or is it fear dressed up as a standard? Then pick one thing you are going to protect. A workout. A lunch away from the desk. A conversation with someone who fills you up. Not because you earned it. Because you need it to keep going.
The job search is not a test of how much you can suffer through. It is a process, and you get to decide how you move through it.

That's a wrap!
Here is what stays with me this week: the most effective job seekers are not the ones grinding the hardest. They are the ones who built in enough flexibility to spot the doors they didn't expect, and enough recovery to walk through them with energy when they appeared.
So this week, name the one place you have been rigid. Then name the one thing you are going to protect. Both moves cost you nothing on paper, and both compound in ways you can feel by Friday.
You are further along than you think. The work is working. The path may look different than you planned, and that is okay.
My rep this week is picking 1 non-negotiable activity each day to protect my self-care. (Practicing what I am preaching.)
Hit reply and tell me yours. I read every one and share my own back.
We are here with you.
