JSC Newsletter: Oct. 13, 2025
Welcome to this week’s JSC Newsletter!
This week we are focusing on moving into the Interviewing strategy and Mindset of the hiring process.
This week’s Mindset Monday, dove right in, tackling the topic of how to Interview Like a Leader, centered on one of the most powerful mindset shifts a job seeker can make — showing up as a leader
We spoke about how we can stop showing up to interviews like you’re hoping to be chosen, and start communicating like a leader who’s driving the conversation.
Shifting that mindset will enable job seekers to show up with confidence, clarity and a vision for themselves and the role they are hoping to step into. By focusing on ways to demonstrate leadership, vision and purpose in the interview, you can articulate your value as leadership mindset.
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” — John C. Maxwell
This week is a foundation building week, examining our mindset, approach and goals. We will also get a report on our community Upskilling Challenge and get a sneak peak at some exciting new things coming to our JSC Discord community.
Ready? Let's go!
Mindset in Motion: Interview Like a Leader
Most job seekers treat interviews like pop quizzes and checkers: They wait for questions, respond reactively, and hope they get it “right.”
Leaders approach interviews differently and see it as a game of chess: They use every question as a platform to cast vision, show strategic thinking, and communicate future direction. Leaders don’t wait to be chosen — they drive the conversation.
When you shift from defending your past to shaping the future, interviews stop feeling like interrogations and start feeling like conversations between peers.
Communicating potential isn’t about your past; it’s about shaping the future. The RDE framework (Reflection, Discovery, Execution) helps transform your answers into leadership stories that inspire trust and confidence.
✨ Fun Fact: 92% of hiring managers say soft skills — especially leadership communication — matter just as much as hard skills (LinkedIn).
For job seekers, whether you’re networking, preparing for an interview, or navigating rejection, every conversation is an opportunity to lead with clarity, direction, and purpose.
Key Takeaways
-
Lead the conversation. Interviews aren’t about being "chosen" ; they’re about demonstrating clarity, confidence, and direction, a vision for your contribution to the role you're hoping to step into.
-
Use the RDE framework (Reflection, Discovery, Execution). This simple loop helps you turn past experiences into forward-looking leadership stories, bringing relevant expereince and value to the conversation.
-
Show ownership. Speak as if you already own the outcomes—this builds trust and communicates executive presence.
-
Soft skills win offers. 92% of hiring managers rank leadership communication as equally or more important than technical skills (LinkedIn).
-
Confidence comes from practice. Every networking conversation, interview, and reflection moment builds the foundation for strong communication; every interaction is an opportunity to create value, open a new door or explore a different perspective.
-
Begin with the end in mind. As Stephen reminded us, when you know the story you’re telling and the vision you’re driving toward, every answer becomes purposeful and memorable.
This week’s conversation was a reminder that leadership isn’t a title—it’s a mindset. Every interview, connection, and conversation is a chance to show direction, not just experience because “the right mindset doesn’t come from the moment; it’s built through practice.”
✨ Fun Fact: According to Harvard Business Review, Candidates who project leadership potential are also 58% more likely to advance to final rounds.
It's not easy, and it take works but the right mindset doesn’t come from the moment; it’s built through practice. So let’s keep showing up, leading with clarity, and building momentum—together.

Community Upskilling Challenge Highlights
This month’s Upskilling Challenge sparked a wave of learning, creativity, and collaboration across the JSC community. Members took on personal growth projects, explored new tools, and leaned into consistency as the foundation for progress.
The group also shared podcast recommendations, celebrated progress with XP level-ups, and swapped inspiration between coding and true crime podcasts (a JSC classic mix of focus and curiosity).

-
Upskilling is personal. Whether it’s coding, analytics, or creative work, progress comes from designing a learning plan that fits your life and goals.

Consistency over perfection. Every small action—one course, one challenge, one update—builds long-term confidence and credibility.
-
Community fuels growth. Encouragement, shared wins, and honest reflections keep momentum alive during busy seasons.
-
Balance matters. As Tabitha shared, “Some days it’s hard to find energy—but even a podcast or 15 minutes of learning counts.
The big reminder this week: Growth isn’t about speed, it’s about direction. Keep steering toward your next win.
