Welcome to this week’s JSC Newsletter!

This week we are focusing on Resumes and the Story we create alongside of them. And to be honest, this is my jam. Crafting a Winning Resume is more than just making sure your margins are aligned, it's about making sure that your value, expereince and confidence are clear so the internal champion or the document itself can sing your praises when you're not even in the room.

This week’s Mindset Monday centered on one powerful truth: your resume is not just a record of what you’ve done — it’s the story of who you’re becoming.

“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” – Oscar Wilde

So this week we are building on how to protect your energy, embrace the power of 'no' and capitalize on time management with your intentional decisions to craft your authentic story with a winning resume.

I'm also excited to wrap on the 30-day Wellness challenge and announce the October challenge (as voted on by the community) and share some exciting Upskilling announcements from our partners at The Urban League of Broward County!

Ready? Let's go!

Mindset in Motion: You Story

Your Resume Is the Trailer, Not the Whole Movie

Think about the last time you watched a movie trailer that instantly pulled you in. It wasn’t just a list of scenes — it gave you a feeling for what was coming next. That’s exactly how your resume should work.

This week, we talked about how too many job seekers treat their resumes like archives — listing every task, title, and timeline. But hiring teams aren’t looking for historians. They’re looking for storytellers — people who can clearly show where they’ve been, the value they bring and hint at the story they’re becoming.

Your resume isn’t about fitting every detail; it’s about shaping a first impression that makes people want to learn more.

✨ Fun Fact: studies show 87% of hiring managers say a candidate’s story, not their resume design, is what earns the interview.

The focus of this session was on reframing how you see yourself and how that translates into your materials, your confidence, and ultimately, your conversations.

Here are the 3 mindset shifts we explored in Monday's Mindset Workshop:

  1. Reframe Your Identity – You are not just your last role. Your resume should highlight leadership, growth, and direction. For example, “managed a sales team” becomes “developed leaders and built systems for scalable growth.”

  2. Understand the Dip – Every job seeker hits emotional lows. The key is anchoring your confidence in the living story your resume tells, not in rejection stats. A thousand applications don’t equal progress — alignment does.

  3. Build Systems That Support You – Treat your search like a job. Stephen reintroduced the 9-to-3 routine to help members find their most productive hours for writing, networking, and reflecting. When your process has structure, your story gains power.

This week is a simple challenge: Pick 2–3 bullet points opn your resume that reflect your proudest career moments and then RD&E.

🟢 Reflect and ask yourself — do they describe what you did, or who you’re becoming?

🟢 Discover the key differences and think though how and what you're goals are with a new role

🟢 Execute a rewrite or storyline that best reflects your current direction, goal and value

Focus on making your story the foundation of your confidence — and let your resume become the proof.

Community Wellness Challenge

As we wrapped up JSC’s Mindfulness and Health Challenge, the community came together to celebrate small wins, steady growth, and the power of accountability. What stood out most was how accountability turned goals into community with 18+ weekly participants reporting in, reaching over 240+ JSC Community members over 4 weeks.

This challenge wasn’t just about workouts or water goals — it was about connection. Members shared laughs over pumpkin creamer, traded gardening tips (jalapeños, anyone?), and even sparked plans for a JSC Gardening Channel next spring.

September Wellness Challenge Highlights 🌿

  • Over 30 days of consistency — members committed to fitness, mindfulness, and personal growth goals.

  • Accountability in action — daily check-ins kept motivation high and built deeper community connections.

  • Reading goals crushed — Stephen finished multiple books and is on track to hit his 25-book target for the year. Linda reported on her progress with the 75Hard. And so many more members chimed in, supported and shared their own steps and achievements.

  • Wellness became contagious — partners, friends, and even family joined the challenge for extra motivation.

  • Community momentum — Tabitha inspired a gardening (and sourdough!) movement. Andrew hit 3 miles a day.

Key takeaway: Small daily actions + shared accountability = lasting change.

What comes next? With the overwhelming success and popularity of a monthly challenge, the community as voted and October is going to be a "Upskilling" Challenge!

We’ll be continuing to track together, sharing wins, and holding each other accountable inside the JSC Discord "#30-day-upskill-challenge" channel.
