JSC Newsletter: Sept. 2, 2025
Welcome to this week’s JSC Newsletter!
This week, as we start a brand new month, we’re turning our attention to one of the most underutilized tools in the job search—your online presence.
Social media, especially LinkedIn, has become the modern first impression. Whether you realize it or not, recruiters, hiring managers, and peers are checking your profile to understand your story. The question is: what are you telling them?
We’re focusing on how to use platforms like LinkedIn to your advantage—by showing up with intention, staying active in your field, and using your voice to share your value. A positive and authentic presence doesn’t just build visibility—it builds trust, credibility, and connection.
“You never get a second chance to make a first impression..”
— Will Rogers
Let’s get into how to turn your profile, posts, and engagement into powerful tools for momentum.
Mindset in Motion: Your 1st (social) Impression
Lead With LinkedIn
Your LinkedIn profile is no longer optional, it’s your digital storefront. It’s where hiring managers, recruiters, and peers go to validate who you are and what you bring to the table. But here’s the mindset shift: this isn’t about chasing likes or crafting the perfect post. It’s about communicating your value with clarity and consistency.
This week, treat LinkedIn like a tool, not a distraction.
Use it to share your story, build connections, and signal where you’re headed—not just where you’ve been.
The job market is hard right now. That’s real. But how you choose to engage with platforms like LinkedIn can either fuel your momentum or keep you stuck. Start by asking yourself:
“Does my profile reflect the direction I’m moving in?”
If not, now’s the time to update, align, and lead with intention. The right people are looking. Make sure they see your potential.
“Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.”
— Jeff Bezos
It’s a strong reminder that your LinkedIn presence is often the room, metaphorically speaking, so make sure it reflects who you are and where you're going.
Workshop of the Week: Polish Your LinkedIn for Job Seeking
This week’s focus is on "your online presence". If your resume is your marketing material, your LinkedIn is your billboard. This workshop is designed to help you take control of that narrative. Our Polish your LinkedIn for Job Seeking, this hands-on workshop is built to help job seekers turn their LinkedIn profile into a powerful, search-optimized tool. We’ll walk through each key section—headline, summary, experience, skills, and more—to ensure your profile reflects not only what you’ve done, but where you’re headed.
We’ll walk through how to:
-
Align your profile with your job search goals
-
Write a headline and summary that reflect your value
-
Showcase achievements, not just responsibilities
-
Use keywords to get found by recruiters
-
Engage authentically to grow your network
Then, we take you behind the curtain into LinkedIn Recruiter to show exactly how recruiters and hiring managers search for candidates. You’ll learn:
-
What hiring teams actually see when you apply
-
How search filters and keywords affect your visibility
-
Where and why your profile shows up in recruiter searches
-
What makes a profile stand out in passive search results
By the end of the session, you’ll know how to write for both humans and algorithms—so your profile can attract the right opportunities, even when you’re not actively applying.
Whether you’re just getting started or need a refresh, this session will help you turn your profile into a tool that attracts opportunity—not just attention.

In fact, up to 30% of annual hiring in the U.S. happens between September and December, as companies aim to close out open headcount and hit annual goals.
A polished, intentional LinkedIn profile is a great start, and ensures you're not just visible, but memorable. Now is the time to align your message, show your momentum, and make sure the story you're telling online reflects the direction you're heading. The right opportunity could already be looking for you—make sure you’re ready to be found.
