JSC Newsletter: Sept. 29, 2025
Welcome to this week’s JSC Newsletter!
This week we are focusing on the concept of Decision Making.
Mindset Monday explored the concept of decision energy, or what we call “emotional calories.” When you spread yourself too thin, you burn through energy that should be fueling your job search strategy. It's a balance, and it's not always an easy one to achieve.
“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.” – Warren Buffett”
We highlighted the story of Linda, from our most recent JSC success story, who found power in saying 'no' to empower balance and direction during her Job Search and now her 75Hard challenge. Instead of applying to everything and chasing perfection, she learned to:
-
Say no to distractions and busywork
-
Target roles that aligned with her story and goals
-
Trust her resume and focus on networking
PS. If you haven't checked out the JSC Success Stories EP. 5 Structure = Momentum with Linda - here's the link: JSC Succes Stories Ep.
So this week we are focusing on how to protect your energy, embrace the power of 'no' and how to capitalize on time management with your intentional decisions.
I'm also excited to report on our community Wellness Challenge: Week 3!
Ready? Let's go!
Mindset in Motion: The Power of Saying 'No'
I've always been facinated by the notion of choice, and studies show this is a concept developed early on. In fact, by around 18–24 months, children enter the famous “no phase.” Far from simple defiance, research shows it’s a natural and healthy milestone. It’s when toddlers first learn autonomy, boundaries, agency and the power of refusal—a foundation for self-regulation and decision-making.
✨ Fun Fact: Every day we make around 35,000 decisions. (Cornell University)
For job seekers, the lesson is similar: saying “no” is not weakness, it’s a form of strength. Just as toddlers conserve their energy by setting boundaries, job seekers must protect their decision energy by prioritizing what truly aligns with their goals. Every “no” to a distraction is really a “yes” to focus, confidence, and the right opportunities.
“You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage—pleasantly, smilingly, non-apologetically—to say no to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger yes burning inside.” – Stephen Covey”
For job seekers, that energy drain can feel even heavier with constant rejections, endless resume tweaks, networking pressure, and the temptation to say yes to every opportunity—even ones that don’t align with your goals. The result? Burnout, frustration, and a search that starts to feel overwhelming instead of purposeful.
This week, we are focusing on protecting our “decision energy” is one of the most powerful ways to stay focused and confident. Every decision you make, whether it’s choosing which roles to apply to, which events to attend, or which advice to follow, costs emotional calories. Spend them wisely.
And sometimes, the strongest move you can make isn’t pushing harder—it’s saying no. Saying no to busywork. No to distractions. No to opportunities that don’t fit your story. Each no creates space for clarity, preserves your energy, and allows you to say yes with confidence when the right role, door or connection shows up. But in order to optimize on those moments, we have to have the space, energy and mindset. So, 'stay ready, so you don't have to get ready" is that tried and true takeaway.
Decisions that Convert: Be Ready
Decisions That Convert: Be Ready.
As we move into October—a month that statistically brings one of the highest waves of hiring—this is the time to protect your energy, focus on your wins, and practice the power of no. Small daily victories build into unstoppable momentum.
“Busy does not mean progress. Your energy flows where your focus goes.”
Take time this week to reflect on your wins, eliminate distractions, and align your efforts with clarity. The right role is coming—and the more intentional you are, the more prepared you’ll be to step in as an impact player from day one.

Community Wellness Challenge: Week 3 recap
The first week of the JSC 30-Day Wellness Challenge continued to pop off with incredible energy, humor, and community support.
Week 3 Wellness Challenge Recap
This week’s theme was all about planning ahead and building safety nets around your goals. We were reminded us that success isn’t about flawless execution—it’s about preparing for the hard moments and staying committed when things don’t go as planned.
💡 Key Takeaways:
-
Preparation beats willpower: A goal is only as strong as the plan behind it. Anticipating roadblocks makes it easier to push through tough days.
-
Balance matters: Members shared the challenge of finding motivation without burning out—learning when to push and when to pace yourself.
-
Community momentum: From 75 Hard milestones to new book routines and even late-night runs in the rain, the group showed how small daily actions add up to confidence and progress.
The big reminder this week: Protect your energy, build systems that support your goals, and keep stacking wins—no matter how small.
We’ll be continuing to track together, sharing wins, and holding each other accountable inside the JSC Discord "#30-day-mindfullness-wellness-health-challenge" channel
And finally, with a new month starting in just a few short days, whats a new community challenge you'd like to participate in? Reply or drop Tena a DM to make a suggestion and maybe we'll tackle it as a community in Oct!
